Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No… it’s a superhero! Well actually.. it’s something even better.. a new edition of French with Amélie! ⚡️

Bonjour tout le monde! Like a espresso shot of French, these dialogues are hyper-concentrated with all the French content you need to keep learning this week. ☕️

Aurélie: Dis-moi, si tu pouvais avoir un super pouvoir, lequel ✪ tu choisirais ?

Judith: Hmm, c'est une question difficile. J'hésite entre voler ou être invisible.

Aurélie: Pourquoi voler ?

Judith: Imagine, je pourrais voyager partout dans le monde sans payer pour les billets d'avion. Et je pourrais sauver des gens en danger en les transportant ✪ rapidement.

Aurélie: C'est vrai, mais je pense que l'invisibilité serait plus pratique.

Judith: Pourquoi ?

Aurélie: Je pourrais assister à des réunions secrètes et découvrir des informations importantes. Et je pourrais aider les gens sans qu'ils sachent que c'est moi ✪.

Judith: Ah, je vois. Mais je pense que voler serait plus amusant.

Aurélie: Je suis d'accord, mais l'invisibilité serait plus utile dans la vie de tous les jours ✪.

Judith: Tu as raison. Mais imagine si on avait les deux pouvoirs, on serait invincibles!

Aurélie: Oui, on pourrait sauver le monde à nous deux ✪!

Judith: Exactement ! On serait les super-héroïnes les plus puissantes de tous les temps !

Aurélie: Haha, j'adore ton enthousiasme. Mais pour l'instant, on va devoir se contenter de ✪ nos pouvoirs ordinaires.

Judith: Ouais, dommage. Mais qui sait, peut-être qu'un jour on aura la chance d'avoir un vrai super pouvoir !

✪ Notes

lequel tu choisirais ? - Lequel 🔗 can confuse sometimes because of its different forms (laquelle, lesquelles etc). Make sure and choose the right form in the exercise *cough cough*.

tu choisirais = Present Conditionnel tense. “choisir, choisissant, choisi” is a diva-verb which always looks more complicated than she is, it’s all those s’s 🤷‍♀️

Et je pourrais aider les gens sans qu'ils sachent que c'est moi - [More advanced learners can] read and see, do you understand each tense in this sentence and why it’s being used?

en les transportant rapidement = the gerund 🔗 🥳 - As always, grammar is meant to *help*, if it isn’t helping you (ie. you’re stressed and anxious and confused) *ignore* it and move on. Top language-learning tip there!

la vie de tous les jours = every-day life, daily life. Ex. “Pour un enfant, la vie de tous les jours est d'aller à l'école.”

à nous deux = ensemble, ‘between us’

se contenter de - Ex. “Se contenter de peu est le plus sûr moyen d'être riche”

I think for me… the ideal superpower would be being able to stop time. Being able to extend precious moments with loved ones or maybe even fast-forward through a tedious task? I’d like to truly make the most of every experience, cherishing the good times and breezing past the not-so-great ones. What about you?

J: Hmm, that's a tough question. It’s hard to choose between flying or being invisible.

A: Why flying?

J: Imagine, I could travel all over the world without paying for plane tickets. And I could save people in danger by quickly transporting them.

A: That's true, but I think invisibility would be more practical.

J: Why?

A: I could attend secret meetings and find out important information. And I could help people without them knowing it's me.

J: Ah, I see. But I think flying would be more fun.

A: I agree, but invisibility would be more useful in everyday life.

J: You're right. But imagine if we had both powers, we would be invincible!

A: Yes, we could save the world between us!

J: Exactly! We'd be the most powerful superheroes ever!

A: Haha, I love your enthusiasm. But for now, we'll have to make do with our ordinary powers.

J: Yeah, too bad. But who knows, maybe one day we'll get the chance to have a real superpower!
