Repetition, Repetition, Repetition ♻️
It’s one of the keys of successful language learning. They say God loves repetition, but it bores humans, that’s why God has the same things happen over and over, while humans try to avoid it.
Part of the power of this newsletter is that it has non-boring repetition built in! It helps you repeat vocabulary and French practice itself without having to think about it so much (it just arrives in your inbox!). And my fresh lively dialogues hopefully get rid of some of the boredom and tedium that language books in particular have a reputation for! 👎🏼
Why then do I bring up repetition at all? Because if the dialogues are too easy, or you don’t think you’re getting enough out of them, it’s the key.
Reading them aloud (multiple times), Listening to the audio (multiple times), reading them aloud while listening to the audio (multiple times)! You get the idea. Maybe even making flashcards of all new vocab if that’s your style.
Don’t be deceived by their relative shortness, there’s a lot packed in there.
There’s a lot each one can teach you!
We all secretly know the only way to truly learn a language are real-life conversations and experiences. Lessons and grammar can only take us so far.
While real-life experiences are difficult to recreate, my colloquial conversational dialogues help you learn authentic French in context. They’re how real French people actually speak.

Baptiste : T’as raison. C'est dans les tuyaux ✪, j'y travaille. Je pense que si je me consacre une heure chaque jour à la lecture, ça passe crème ✪.
Jeanne : Ça semble être un plan solide. Bonne chance avec ça !
Baptiste : Mais bonne chance avec ton français. Je suis sûr que tu t'amélioreras en un rien de temps.
Jeanne : Merci! J’espère que t’as raison. On verra ✪ bien comment ça se passe.

✪ Notes
à utiliser Google Traduction = 👀
ça fait des semaines = ça fait + [durée] = il y a = have been doing [something] for + [duration]. This one is so much easier in practice than it seems on paper. I’m found that having learners think of the literal translation ‘that makes [duration]’ makes sense to English brains.
Ex. “Ça fait une demi-heure que je t'attends” (I've been waiting half an hour for you )
je suis dessus✨= I’m on it / I’m working on it “Croyez-moi les gars, je suis dessus” (Believe me guys, I’m working on it)
Grouille-toi !✨ = Dépêche-toi ! = Get a move on! (colq.)
Plus… Plus… = avec cet usage, pas d'articles définis avant plus or moins. “Plus j'essaie, moins je réussis” (The harder I try, the less I succeed...)(you and me both buddy!)
c'est dans les tuyaux✨ = lit. ‘it’s in the pipes’ = it’s in the works
ça passe crème✨ = tout se passe bien, ça va bien. Colloquial and cool !
on verra (bien)✨ = we’ll see = a wonderful little nugget of French philosophy-in-a-phrase (French does that). ‘We’ll see’ is nearly always the right perspective on things!
*✨ = especially ‘Frenchie’ words/phrases you should try and use more
Writing Prompt ✍️
My biggest short-term goal at the minute is actually to be able to teach French again full time. To be able to have it as my main source of income. If I can manage it! It’s my passion and what I want to spend my time doing, and this newsletter is a big part of that hope. So a goal is to keep growing it. Getting to 20,000 subscriber is my next big milestone I guess. 🤓
Alors, quels sont quelques-uns de tes objectifs à court terme ?
All answers are welcome. One word.. or one sentence.

B: J, what are some of your short-term goals?
J: Well, I really want to improve my French. I hope to be able to hold a complete conversation in French without having to use Google Translate. What about you?
B: That's a good goal! For me, I want to finish this book I'm reading. I've been working on it for weeks.
J: What kind of book is it?
B: It's a science fiction novel. I really like it, but I can never find the time to finish it.
J: Well, hurry up! The sooner you finish it, the sooner you can move on.
B: You're right. It's in the pipeline, I'm working on it. I think if I devote an hour a day to reading, I'll get the hang of it.
J: Sounds like a solid plan. Good luck with that!
B: But good luck with your French. I'm sure you'll improve in no time.
J: Thanks! I hope you're right. We'll see how it goes.

👑 Comment of the week
À qui tu admires dans la vie ? J'ai été ravie de voir que beaucoup d'entre vous ont cité leur partenaire comme la personne qu'ils admiraient le plus. Denise a répondu:
J'admire mon mari qui est toujours là pour sa famille. Il a beaucoup de patience et reste calme en toutes situations. Il est le meilleur exemple d'un partenaire en vie à qui mes deux filles peuvent admirer.
Quelle est ton équipe de sport préférée? Jenny a répondu:
Puis-je avoir deux favoris? Vous voyez, je suis Ecossaise d'origine, mais Suissesse d'adoption, et tandis que mon équipe de foot préférée est Servette, je suis aussi fan de rugby, et là mon coeur bat très fort pour l'équipe nationale d'Ecosse.Une Façon d'utiliser ce Dialogue
