Ok, so it’s “un peu ironique” to be asking about the weekend on Sunday evening! (I hope you all had good ones though - Sundays and weekends). I’ll have to get my dialogue topics synchronised with the week from now on…

I’m plotting the future of French with Amelie—the new things I can offer to help us all move quicker and more painlessly toward conversational fluency and *confidence* in French.

And as I do so my paid subscriber community is who I trust the most to guide me!

So here’s one idea I’ve been toying with - let me know what you think. 😊

Conversation small-groups → I would facilitate relaxed conversation groups of ~4 people based on level, sex, timezones etc. This would be a chance to practice your French in a totally safe environment while connecting with like-minded serious learners.

My readers are the absolute best! I should be helping them to help each other.

*Nb. These would not be group-lessons, but more informal reader-only small groups. Like little French with Amélie break-out sessions. The beauty is also that my dialogues are great topics to use in just this kind of setting.

Jacques : Alors, quels sont tes plans pour ce week-end, Marie ?

Marie : Je vais probablement visiter une expo d'art moderne à la Fondation Louis Vuitton. Et toi ?

Jacques : Je pense que je vais faire une randonnée dans les montagnes avec quelques amis. J'adore être en pleine nature.

Marie : C'est super ! Je suis jalouse, j'aimerais beaucoup faire de la randonnée aussi.

Jacques : Tu devrais ✪ nous rejoindre ! Plus on est de fous, plus on rit ✪, n'est-ce pas ?

Marie : Peut-être la prochaine fois ! J'ai besoin de prendre un peu de temps pour moi cette semaine. Mais merci pour l'invitation.

Jacques : Pas de problème ✪. Et après ta visite à la fondation, qu'est-ce que tu as prévu ?

Marie : Je vais probablement aller manger dans un petit resto que j'ai découvert récemment. J'ai hâte de ✪ goûter leur cuisine.

Jacques : Ça a l'air délicieux. Peut-être qu'on pourra se rejoindre pour un verre plus tard dans la soirée ?

Marie : Avec plaisir ! ✪ Ça me ferait très plaisir de passer un peu plus de temps avec toi.

✪ Notes

tu devrais = tu pourrais, il serait bon que = you should. Giving friendly advice in French? "tu devrais" is your phrase. "Tu devrais essayer ce nouveau café, leurs croissants sont à tomber !" (You should try this new café, their croissants are to die for!). Perfect for those little nudges in the right direction.

plus on est de fous, plus on rit ✨ = plus il y a de personnes, plus on s'amuse = the more the merrier. The excuse to turn any get-together into a bash. "Invitons quelques amis de plus, plus on est de fous, plus on rit!" (Let's invite a few more friends, the more the merrier!). 

pas de problème ✨ = aucun souci = no problem. Breeze through life's little hiccups with pas de problème. "Tu as renversé ton verre ? Pas de problème, on va nettoyer ça en un clin d'œil!" (You spilled your drink? No problem, we'll clean this up in a jiffy!).

j'ai hâte de = je suis impatient de = I can't wait to.. My English students are always getting tongue-tied over this little phrase. Now you don’t have to!

avec plaisir ! ✨ = with pleasure! The cherry on top of your French conversational sundae. A classy French combination of eagerness and enthusiasm.

*✨ = especially ‘Frenchie’ words/phrases you should try and use more
*🧩 = ‘canned’ expressions or phrases that are best learned as a whole, like puzzle-pieces.

Marie: Si j'avais su que tu aimais tant l'art moderne, je t'aurais proposé de m'accompagner. Cela aurait été agréable d'explorer ensemble l'exposition, même si cela changeait nos plans habituels.

Jacques: C'est vrai que si nous avions plus de temps libre, nous pourrions découvrir tant de nouvelles choses ensemble. J'espérais que nous aurions l'occasion de partager plus de nos intérêts communs dans le futur.

1. Lorsque Jacques a proposé une randonnée en pleine nature, Marie, d'habitude si casanière, a senti une pointe de jalousie envers les amis de Jacques. 

2. "Parfait !" s'est-elle exclamée, réalisant que c'était l'occasion de sortir de sa routine.
