Bonjour mes amis! 👋🏼 J'espère que vous allez bien.
The negative energy of Monday’s laptop fiasco must have bled into Tuesday too, because my big Tuesday poll was broken! Yikes. Turns out Substack polls are a thing to be mastered, like Kung fu or chopping an onion. They have their secret ways.
To briefly recap, French with Amélie has a big milestone coming up 👀 and I want to celebrate the community! I’m also loving the polls where I get to see everyone’s opinions directly.. democracy and French are just a great combo!
I want to do a giveaway to celebrate (🍾) but I want the prize to be something my readers actually want! And what better way to find that out than to poll you guys! Please vote below for what you’d like me to giveaway. It should all work seamlessly this time! 🤞🏼
Thanks for your patience. Love to all my readers!
There’s also a little surprise for everyone below too.
You might need your headphones 😇
🇺🇸🇬🇧 My colloquial conversational dialogues help you learn authentic French in context. They’re how real French people actually speak. If you have any questions or concerns - comment below or simply reply to this email. ✌🏻
Gros Bisous! A x
Gabriel : Ouais, chui d'accord.

✪ Notes
polyvalence = versatile/multi-purpose. A helpful word for talking about language and words: ’En français, ce mot n’est pas aussi polyvalent qu’en anglais’
avoir bonne mine = to look well/good. avoir mauvaise mine = avoir l'air malade, fatigué = to look dreadful/rough
doué = gifted/talented “Qu'est-ce qu'elle est douée !” (Whoah, she’s good at it!)
avoir le béguin pour = to have a crush on.
je suppose = I imagine/suppose. Might sound a little Frenglish to some ears - but it’s useful in this context
Writing Prompt ✍️
Ah, choosing just one is a challenge, but if I had to, it’s probably Marion Cotillard (French, of course!). She has this captivating on-screen presence, and can portray complex characters so that I always end up relating to them in ways that surprise me. She brings authenticity and intensity to every role. Or maybe I’m just kidding myself and it’s really my first love Pedro Pascal !
Alors, qui est ton acteur préféré ?
All answers are welcome. One word.. or one sentence.
Write me your answer in the comments. I can’t wait to read them! 👇🏼
Translation
G: Who's your favorite actor?
C: Oh, that's hard to choose. But I'd have to say Leonardo DiCaprio. I love his versatility and the way he fits into every role he plays.
G: Yeah, I agree. He has a good look and he's so talented. What more could you want? But, for me, Christian Bale is incredible. The way he can switch from one genre to another with such ease... it's really impressive.
C: It's true. He completely transforms himself for each role. Do you remember the film "Le Prestige"? His performance left me speechless. But as far as actresses go, I love Sigourney Weaver.
G: Oh, yes, she's great. I loved her in "Alien". Léa Seydoux for me. I've had a crush on her since I saw her in "La vie d'Adèle".
C: She's really talented. And there's a genuine connection between her and the audience in every one of her films. When she's on screen, you can't look away.
G: Exactly. Whether it's DiCaprio, Bale, Weaver or Seydoux, they all have this ability to transport us into their stories. They know how to bring their characters to life and make us feel all kinds of emotions.
C: That's what makes them great actors, I guess.
