Samuel : Dis-moi, tu as un béguin pour quelqu'un en ce moment ?

Marguerite : J'ai un coup de cœur pour quelqu'un du travail. Il est vraiment mignon.

Samuel : Vraiment ?! C'est cool ça ! Alors, tu as craqué sur lui quand ?

Marguerite : Je pense que c'était il y a deux semaines. Il a un sourire qui me fait craquer.

Samuel : Il a de la chance, ce gars ! Et tu lui as parlé de tes sentiments ?

Marguerite : Non, pas encore. C'est un peu compliqué, tu sais.

Samuel : Ouais, je vois très bien. L'amour met en jeu des sentiments très forts. C'est normal d'être nerveux.

Marguerite : C'est vrai, c'est vrai. C'est comme ça. Mais de tout mon cœur, je souhaite qu'il ressente la même chose.

Samuel : Tu devrais essayer de lui parler ! Qui sait ? Il pourrait ressentir la même chose pour toi.

Marguerite : Bon, alors. "Qui ne risque rien n’a rien”. Je vais essayer de lui parler cette semaine.

Samuel : C'est le meilleur plan. Alors, je vais te demander “C’en est où avec ton ce mec?” la semaine prochaine, d'accord ?

Marguerite : D'accord, Samuel. Je te tiendrai au courant !

✪ Notes

un béguin = a crush. “Ça fait➹ des mois que j'ai le béguin pour cette fille” (I've had a crush on this girl for months now). Previous appearance ➹

avoir un coup de cœur (pour) = be taken with (be bitten by the bug). “Vous éprouvez un coup de coeur pour une maison ou pour un appartement?” (Have you fallen in love with a house or flat?)

craquer sur✨  = avoir un coup de cœur pour! (see above). This is the freshest colloquial way to talk about having fallen for someone in French. “Vincent a craqué sur sa jolie voisine.”

de tout mon cœur✨ = with all my heart

c’en est où avec … ✨ = how’s it going with.. / what’s up with.. “Tu en es où avec lui ?” (How is it going between you and him?)

je te tiendrai au courant = je te tiens au courant✨ = rester informé de [qch] = I'll keep you posted / up to date (colq.). être au courant = be informed/aware “Tu es au courant ? Il a démissionné” (Did you hear? He’s resigned)

*✨ = especially ‘Frenchie’ words/phrases you should try and use more
*🧩 = ‘canned’ expressions or phrases that are best learned as a whole, like puzzle-pieces.

Translation

S: Tell me, do you have a crush on anyone at the moment?

M: I've got a crush on someone at work. He's really cute.

S: Really?! That's so cool! So, when did you fall for him?

M: I think it was a couple of weeks ago. He's got a smile that just cracks me up.

S: He's a lucky guy! And have you told him about your feelings?

M: No, not yet. It's a bit complicated, you know.

S: Yeah, I can see that. Love involves very strong feelings. It's normal to be nervous.

M: It's true, it's true. That's the way it is. But with all my heart, I hope he feels the same way.

S: You should try talking to him! Who knows? He might feel the same way about you.

M: OK, then. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'll try to talk to him this week.

S: That's the best plan. So, I'm going to ask you "How's it going with that guy?" next week, OK?

M: OK, S. I'll keep you posted!
