Stepped on a snail. Broke my favorite bicycle bell. Got lost in a field of sunflowers. The joys of cycling in France. At least I'm not pushing my bike through mud. Brace yourself for some wheel-y good French (sorry!).
J'ai marché sur un escargot. Cassé ma sonnette de vélo préférée. Perdu dans un champ de tournesols. Les joies du cyclisme en France. Au moins je ne pousse pas mon vélo dans la boue. Rejoignez-moi pour du français vraiment bon.

It’s had the kind of response I was hoping for from readers. One of the most beautiful objects in all of Paris. Thursday’s lesson will be Paris 🗼 : Sainte-Chapelle 💠. And I feel like I’m sharing a part of myself with you my students!

Dialogue du Jour
Matéo : Ça gaze ✪, Lisa ? On pédale depuis des heures, j'ai l'impression qu'on tourne en rond ✪.
Lisa : Bah, ça marche plus ou moins. Je suis un peu fatiguée, mais regarde ce paysage ! Les champs de tournesols à perte de vue, c'est magnifique.
Matéo : T'as raison, c'est à couper le souffle. Mais dis donc, on devrait peut-être consulter la carte. J'ai peur qu'on se soit égarés.
Lisa : Attends, laisse-moi vérifier... Oh putain, on a raté le virage il y a deux kilomètres ! Il faut faire demi-tour.
Matéo : Pas question ! ✪ J'ai repéré un petit chemin de terre là-bas. Ça nous fera gagner du temps.
Lisa : Tu es sûr ? J'ai peur que ce soit une mauvaise idée.
Matéo : Fais-moi confiance ! Allez, on y va !
[Quelques minutes plus tard]
Lisa : Bravo, Matéo. On est coincés au milieu d'un champ. Il faut qu'on pousse nos vélos maintenant.
Matéo : Désolé, je pensais que ce serait un raccourci ✪. Mais avoue que c'est une sacrée aventure !
Lisa : Si tu le dis... Oh, regarde ces fleurs sauvages ! Et ces vaches qui nous observent, elles ont l'air de se moquer de nous.
Matéo : Au moins, on aura une belle histoire à raconter. Et puis, le soleil couchant est splendide, non ?
Lisa : C'est vrai que c'est pas mal. La brise est agréable aussi. Allez, dépêchons-nous de retrouver la route avant qu'il fasse nuit.
Matéo : D'accord, chef ! Une fois qu'on sera sortis de ce pétrin ✪, on filera à toute allure ✪ à travers les villages. Ça te dit ? ✪
Lisa : Carrément ! J'ai hâte de filer comme le vent. Mais la prochaine fois, c'est moi qui choisis l'itinéraire.
Matéo : Et si on trouvait un petit resto sympa pour ce soir ? Après tout ce sport, j'ai une faim de loup.
Lisa : Excellente idée. J'espère qu'il y aura des spécialités locales. Allez, en selle !

M: At least we'll have a great story to tell. And the sunset is splendid, isn't it?
L: It's true, it's not bad. The breeze is nice too. Come on, let's hurry and find the road before it gets dark.
M: Alright, boss! Once we're out of this mess, we'll speed through the villages. Are you up for it?
L: Absolutely! I can't wait to ride like the wind. But next time, I'm choosing the route.
M: How about we find a nice little restaurant for tonight? After all this exercise, I'm starving.
L: Excellent idea. I hope there will be local specialties. Let's go, back in the saddle!

ça gaze ? ✨ = ça va = how's it going?
tourner en rond ✨= ne pas avancer = go around in circles. For those moments when you feel like you're getting nowhere – in a conversation or on a bike!
pas question✨ = certainement pas = no way. This is your go-to phrase for refusing something with vehemence. "Manger des escargots ? Pas question, je suis végétarien !"
raccourci = chemin plus court = shortcut. In France, taking a 'raccourci' can lead to adventures – or misadventures! "Ils m'ont forcé à prendre des raccourcis” (They forced me to cut corners)
