French Substacks Worth Reading for Learners
Bonjour ! Amélie here. 👋
Searching for a French Substack usually ends in mild disappointment. Substacks written entirely in French, for learners, are rare. What exists instead is a small, good shelf of newsletters around French: Paris, art, food, village life, and how languages are learned.
So here is the honest list. I checked each publication’s public archive in October 2026, and I say plainly which language each one is written in, because “about France” and “in French” are not the same thing for your ear.
The short answer: For French you can actually study, read French with Amélie (dialogues in French with the English). For French culture with some French on the page, The Art of French. For France in English, The Earful Tower, The French Life, Paris Unlocked, Paris by Mouth and The Real Emily in Paris. For learning method, How We Learn Languages.

Paris Unlocked
Paris Unlocked publishes Paris history and dispatches, in English.
Language: English. Suits: history lovers and anyone planning a trip who wants more than a list of monuments.
Paris by Mouth
Paris by Mouth is about Paris restaurants, in English.

How We Learn Languages
How We Learn Languages is about language-learning method, in English.
Language: English. Suits: learners who like to understand why a method works before they commit to it.
How should you read a French Substack as a learner?
Reading about France in English is lovely for motivation, but it will not train your French. When a post does contain French, use it properly:
- Read it twice. First for meaning, then for the French itself. Underline the phrases you would never have produced on your own.
- Steal three phrases. Not thirty. Write three into your notes and use one of them in a sentence today.
- Find the audio. Reading builds vocabulary, but your ear needs the sound. Wherever there is a recording, listen before you read, then again after.
If the audio is what you need most, my guide to French podcasts with transcripts lists shows where you can listen and check every word.
Bonne lecture. 💜
